  • Company History

    historie

More than one hundred years ago, Heinrich Winkelmann and Caspar Pannhoff founded an independent workshop producing goods for the enamel industry. The business grew rapidly over the years to become a highly advanced SME, which is still today headquartered in the town of Ahlen in Westphalia.

Winkelmann + Pannhoff GmbH Umformtechnik always operated unostentatiously and diversified by founding manageable, sales-oriented subsidiaries. During the expansion phase in particular, the founders were careful to ensure that production efficiency, research and development in the relevant product segment and technical perfection in the production process always remained a key focus. The young company was not satisfied with simply mastering and consolidating existing knowledge acquired from elsewhere, but was keen to face up to the challenge posed by and keep pace with the rapid growth in knowledge. The company’s success has more than justified the approach taken by the founders and their successors.

For this family business, staff welfare and workplace safety were important considerations. The commitment and loyalty of our employees was and remains of fundamental importance in meeting past and future business challenges. Our company philosophy has always been to treat our suppliers and business partners fairly and to show them loyalty, and that remains just as true today.

    Winkelmann Group
The Winkelmann Group’s three divisions have evolved through the continuous development and application of our expertise across a range of metal forming techniques. From automotive, to heating + water, to aerospace, many of the components required in these sectors are manufactured using our core competence – technologically advanced metal forming processes. These three divisions are supported by our procurement unit, which undertakes strategic purchasing for the group as a whole and ensures that we are able to successfully deliver material requirements planning and just-in-time provision of steel products manufactured from flat steel.

    automotive

    Automotive

    Heating + Water
The companies in the Winkelmann Group’s heating + water division are synonymous with expertise, innovation and reliability. Our in-house R&D, collaboration with research institutions and the latest production techniques mean that our heating, energy and systems engineering products are always at the technological cutting edge. Our expert staff ensure that customers from the heavy industry, plant engineering, engineering, specialist wholesale and specialist workshop sectors receive personalised advice and custom products.

    flowforming

    Flowforming
The broad portfolio of products offered by Winkelmann MSR Technology, part of the division Flowforming, are used in a wide range of industrial sectors. Their manufacture is a high precision process. Industries served range from aerospace, vehicle manufacturing and defence to more general industrial applications. Our rotationally symmetrical products are produced using forming techniques such as flow forming, roughing and deep drawing. The advantages of components produced using forming techniques over products manufactured using other techniques include low material wastage, high end product strength (as a result of the material being cold worked) and reduced weight.

Developing and manufacturing innovative, competitive products for our globally active customers requires outstanding dedication from all Winkelmann Group companies and sites and constant openness to new ideas from every corner of the world. To meet this requirement, we need highly capable, reliable suppliers.
On average 50% of Winkelmann Group turnover is comprised of raw materials and services purchased externally. Our success is therefore highly dependent on the capabilities of our selected suppliers.

    Your Perspective
We are always on the lookout for new, highly capable suppliers, who are prepared to make a major contribution to the success of our company. In return, we offer partner businesses excellent growth prospects and a long-term trust-based business relationship with a solid, internationally-oriented group of companies.

We expect our suppliers to work in genuine partnership with us – we demand a lot from our partners.

    What we expect:
    • deadlines to be honoured and flexibility
    • responsibility to be taken for quality
    • cost transparency and improvements
    • environmental and social responsibility
    • product and service innovation

  • Procurement Organisation

    procurement organisation

The Winkelmann Group is a group of companies made up of multiple companies and factories with their own operational structures. Strategic management and coordination of procurement is the responsibility of the head of strategic procurement and four product group managers.

The procurement organisation thus consists of clearly focused units – multi-site strategic procurement and site-specific Operational Procurement. The Strategic Procurement team is responsible for procuring key material groups such as raw materials, energy, etc.

By bundling demand from multiple sites and sourcing materials and services globally, we aim to systematically realise synergies and exploit potential for cost reductions.

The site-based Operational Procurement teams are responsible for procuring materials for day-to-day operational requirements, always in coordination with the Strategic Procurement unit. They form the direct link between internal points of consumption and our suppliers.

  • Suppliers Code

Our company’s social and environmental responsibilities are increasingly coming to include our choice of business partner, in particular suppliers and service providers. The Winkelmann Group’s head of Strategic Procurement has therefore decreed that, in addition to price, quality and reliability of supply, environmental and social factors must also be taken into account when selecting suppliers.

Since May 1, 2010, a Winkelmann Group Suppliers Code defines requirements which must be met by suppliers of goods, capital goods and services. The core points of the code are ethical conduct, respect for human rights, socially acceptable working conditions, adherence to environmental standards and the use of management systems.

The principles set out in this code reflect the Winkelmann Group’s mission and are based on the following international conventions and standards:

    • The principles of the United Nations Global Compact
    • The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development’s (OECD) guidelines for multinational enterprises
    • International Labour Organisation (ILO) agreements
    • The International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Business Charter for Sustainable Development
    • SA 8000 (standard for socially responsible company management)

The Winkelmann Group expects its suppliers to promote adherence to these principles in their own supply chains.
